stamps from Canada

Ah, the glory days of postage and stamps, exuding a whiff of adventure!

Canada still gets it right. We bought a calendar and it came with these stamps. That big one is 2-1/2 by 1-7/8 inches. I like bilingual--French and English. I guess "Canada" is the same in both. What? Did they miss translating moose? I google translated and, yes--"original." The plural of moose? Not meese. Little Switzerland crams three languages on each stamp. Looks like the bottom three are not canceled.

Canadian geese didn't fail

I've often noticed that in the first week of the calendar year Canada Geese get moving. The days, afterall, are getting longer.

I thought of this again towards the end of December. Sure enough, yesterday I heard and then saw a medium sized vee of geese. I tried to snitch a photo of one online, but gave up.

My father was not one to be afraid of animals. But he had an irrational fear of geese, left over from an experience of being attacked by one when he was a child.

Way beyond Charlotte

We're way beyond Charlotte Web, the early spider who evoked literary vibes with me. We're now down to hard core agression and capture with this specimen hiding behind the barn.

This does not make me think of sweet stories for children about little piggies on idyllic farms in New England being rescured by clever arachnoid brains.

I don't see a brain here. I see a pin point dedicated circuit hard wired for conquest. I see empire. I see Hollywood terror. I see fools in an oil rich desert, not knowing the climate will change in a few weeks and all that armor will fall and be kicked aside by the natives.

Well, I also see yellow design on an abdomen. Is there a similar creature within webbing distance whose heart will melt upon seeing this fine belly?

Hey, I was just trimming back a few grape vines. What made me think war? Is it time I move to Canada and see this as art?
