another food shot

We got the turkey that was not pardonned, physically.  But I know that spiritually, being an organic bird, it left in a redeemed state.  And we ate it, after this hours-long roasting, in a joy of gratitude state.  Maybe a little stuffed, but backed off the calories the next day.

Speaking of stuffed, this year we did the stuffing all outside the--ooh, the word--cavity.  Yes.  Inside roasted lemon and some herbs.  To the delight of all non-veggies.  And this year the thermometer ruled.  One-sixty-five and it was done and sat for a half hour.  I carved it in the kitchen and platters were sent around the table of eleven.

one thanksgiving table

Thanksgiving Day we left West Eby Road to the other locals who held the fourth wedding of our road mates this fall, and we gathered with family at Charlotte Street. Here's the table Lois set, replete with fruit cocktail appetizer. Right before we sang a Brian Wren hymn ("for the fruit of all creation, thanks be to God") and prayed, we delighted in the colors of the oyster stuffing dish, the herb stuffing, the cranberries, celery, olives, succotash, broccoli, turkey at the very top, gravy, and sweet potatoes. Not visible is a succulent cranberry dip and other goodies, including pumpkin pies. Also, not visible, is discussion ranging from one end of civilized living to the other, and bonds of affection. Family Thanksgiving

We were fortunate to have Ryan's parents, Norman and Joyce Schrock, for the Thanksgiving feast, along with other family. The weather was mild enough to do our photo without coats.

tools of the feast

Dorcas got the fancy knives out today to see that they are ready for Thanksgiving. We plan for 16 persons on Thursday. The turkey's coming from an organic farm in Lititz. Not flying in. Sarah plans to pick it up. photo by Joel

pilgrims in the village

Montereyans don't forget Thanksgiving Day. Let's see--it's the day we remember Pilgrims eating out with Indians one fall day. Synchronize that with Sesame Street images and you have a bright display on main street. Are the Indians sitting on the bales, or do they show up later?

After Thanksgiving

All the big things--the wedding and Thanksgiving--are over. Now time to take a break.

How to kick back and relax a day? Go to the big, bustling city. Find the Renoir exhibit. The sign's big enough.

The museum itself is some kind of work of art. It must have just been scrubbed. The Renoir pieces were all landscapes, his earlier work. So beautiful while we are living in an autumnal picture of yellow and red trees.

On the way home we can't miss a stop at Ikea for an office storage unit and a Swedish meatball.
