an amish moment

Tuesday, our neighbor's daughter got married in the farmhouse.  The week before, her mother offered to send out a serving of supper if we liked.  Yes, we like!

It came in colorful styrofoam cups and pint containers.  From the point of the napkin:  lemon chiffon pie, fruit salad, salad and dressing behind, small filled doughnut, apricot-toned fluffy tapioca.  On the plate:  ham with a great sauce, baked corn, boiled potatoes smothered in browned butter, and the salad.

They will get a big thank-you, and the couple a congratulations!

Amish school's out

After a half day of school and carolling by mule drawn hay wagon, the scholars leave and get home in time for lunch. After the children left, the teacher allowed me to snap the decorated classroom.

three more wheels

Now the wheels. Reminds me of going down the snowy hill on sleds hooked together, or of pulling a wagon behind a go-cart.



The main thing is--the wheel has been invented. If you are wondering where the tires fell off--well, I'll have to tell you about the Amish genius for avoiding flat tires.

And the winner of the Monterey Christmas light contest is...

Competition was practically nil. Amish refused to participate.

Bill Moyers uses sounds from Monterey

Well, Monterey isn't the center of the world, but for a few moments anyone in the world who was listening to Bill Moyer's Journal would have been hearing a few sounds generated here.

Weekly, Bill Moyers produces a reflective television piece. Last Friday it featured the book Amish Grace. The sound of the hymn and the schoolhouse bell were supplied by Harmonies. We get a little link and credit.
